What’s the Best Reading Program for Children? 6 Simple Steps.
If you are the parent of a kindergartener or first-grader, you may be wondering which reading program is the best reading program for children. While there is no single answer—every child is different—there are some fundamentals you may want to consider.
First of all, does the program rely on teaching reading with phonics? Phonics is the easiest way for children to learn to read, so as a parent, phonics-based programs are a good place to start.
Next, consider the length of each lesson. For small children, 5-minutes-a-day is plenty. Also, do you want to teach your children, or do you want them to learn on their own? At such a young age, you may want to be involved in the process.
And finally, make sure the program is easy to use! If you’ve never taught anyone to read before, it’s critical that whatever program you choose is easy for you to figure out how to teach. Take a look below at the 6 Simple Steps to Reading and see if Teach Your Child to Read™ is the reading program for children that will work best for you.

Best Reading Program for Children—6 SIMPLE STEPS
STEP 1: In STEP 1, your child will learn the sound of each letter. In fact, in our program, we refer to letters by their sounds, not their names. (Don’t worry if you don’t know how to pronounce the sounds. The program’s gentle audio voice will do that for you.)
STEP 2: After your child has learned the sound of each letter, he will combine those sounds to read words. As you can imagine, this happens pretty fast. Once your child can sound out all the words in STEP 2, she is well on her way to reading.
STEP 3: In STEP 3, your child will learn the sounds of the blends, like ‘sh,’ ‘th,’ and ‘ch.’ Once again, the sounds will all be pronounced for you by the program.
STEP 4: Once your child recognizes all of the blends, he will combine those sounds to make even harder words. Notice a pattern here? STEPS 1, 2, 3, and 4 are almost a repeat—just harder. Phonics is a linear way of teaching reading which makes it easy for you AND makes sure you cover all of the basics as you move along.
STEP 5: In STEP 5, our program uses a proprietary method of teaching your child the rule of the silent vowel. Once your child understands this rule, she will be able to read many more complex words.
STEP 6: In STEP 6, your child is ready to read. You will love listening to your children read the 10 storybooks aloud!
